December 31, 2007

Despite costly fumbles at inopportune times and an injury to star quarterback Vince Young, the resilient Titans (10-6) were able to emerge victorious and claim the AFC’s final playoff spot in their 16-10 win over the Colts (13-3).

Titans DB coach Cecil saves a life

December 29, 2007

In his playing days, Tennessee Titans defensive backs coach Chuck Cecil was a hard-hitting safety. He was a very good safety, earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors. He was such a hard-hitting safety that he made the cover of a prominent national magazine with the memorable question, “Is Chuck Cecil Too Vicious for the NFL?”
Cecil received a lot of media coverage for his actions on the field. Earlier this year, he also received coverage from the mainstream media for an unfortunate incident off the field.
But where is the media coverage for something Cecil did which is even more important? All the quick-thinking and fast-acting Cecil did was perform the Heimlich manuever on a choking victim, saving his life.
I searched the web this morning and unfortunately found nothing reported on this. I’m glad to be able to correct this omission.
The mainstream media is quick to praise players and coaches for their exploits on the field and quicker to criticize them for mistakes in their private lives. Somehow they aren’t as quick to report good deeds off the field.

Colts questions about the Titans

December 28, 2007

I’ve exchanged questions and answers with Christine Traylor, one of the writers on MVN’s Colts Couch Crew, regarding Tennessee’s game at Indianapolis this Sunday. I published my questions and Christine’s answers Wednesday. Today, it’s time for Christine’s questions and my answers.
Colts Couch Crew: How much of an affect do you think Indy’s starters not playing a full game will affect the outcome of this matchup? Do you believe that the Titans will recognize the importance of the game and step up to Indy’s second string?

Titans at Colts preview

December 27, 2007

The Tennessee Titans have an opportunity to clinch a wildcard berth in primetime Sunday night when they take on the rival Indianapolis Colts. Win and they’re in, but lose and they’re out. Let’s hope this will not be the final game preview I get to write this season.
Tennessee defeated the Jets 10-6 last week and the Colts spanked the Texans 38-15, their sixth win in a row.
Surface: Field turf. Playing conditions: Climate- and noise-controlled inside the RCA Dome.

Total Titans questions about the Colts

December 26, 2007

I’ve asked Christine Traylor, one of MVN’s writers on Colts Couch Crew, four questions about the Colts regarding Tennessee’s game at Indianapolis this Sunday. The questions and Christine’s answers follow.
Total Titans: Everyone expects Tony Dungy to rest a lot of his starters and injured players. What can you tell us about some of the people who will be replacing them? Which spots will have the biggest dropoff in talent and which will be almost the same?

Grinches will try to steal Titans’ Christmas

December 25, 2007

Merry Christmas, Titans fans and Total Titans readers!
Santa has brought us all a great present. With just one regular season game remaining, the Titans are in position to earn a wildcard berth with a win Sunday. It’s been a long time, too long, since the Titans have been in the playoffs, and this year’s overachieving team is on the verge of doing so.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmastime without a grinch, and the Indianapolis Colts will try to fill that role this year by stealing the Titans’ Christmas present. (more…)

Titans struggle past Jets for much-needed victory

December 24, 2007

It wasn’t always pretty or exciting, but at LP Field Sunday afternoon, the Titans did what they needed to to come away with a 10-6 victory over the New York Jets. The key factors were two costly interceptions by Jets QB Chad Pennington, plus some kicking woes for Jets PK Mike Nugent.

Titans to play for playoffs on Sunday Night Football Week 17

December 23, 2007

Following the Browns’ 19-14 loss to the Bengals today, the Titans controlled their own destiny. Win twice, and they’re in the playoffs. Lose a game or two, and the postseason dreams are ended. Well, the Titans came through on the first half with a 10-6 win over the Jets this afternoon, and the second half will take place in front of the entire country. That’s right, the Week 17 game against the Colts in Indianapolis has been moved from 1 PM ET to Sunday Night Football.
The rules for this game are simple: win, and the Titans are in the playoffs. Lose, and they’re out of the playoffs. A tie, and, well, in with a Browns loss or tie, out with a Browns win. Alas, I’ll have a break in my liveblogging effort of the Titans’ national telecasts, as I’ll be at the RCA Dome cheering them on. Feel free to throw brickbats in my direction.
I’ll be back later this evening with a Jets game recap.
