Who is the Titans’ all-time running back?

by

Since the franchise moved to Tennessee, four players have led the Titans in rushing — Eddie George, Chris Brown, Travis Henry and LenDale White.
George will be a candidate for the Hall of Fame and I don’t think there’s any way one of the others gets more votes than him, but I’m including them in the poll simply because they have all had 1,000-yard seasons to lead the team in rushing.
George’s stats listed below do not include those compiled as a Houston Oiler or Dallas Cowboy. Henry’s stats do not include those in his stints with the Buffalo Bills or Denver Broncos.

Stats Gms Strts Atts Yrds Avg Lng TD Rec Yds Avg
Eddie George 112 112 2,398 8,641 3.6 40 56 236 1962 8.3
Chris Brown 54 29 643 2,757 4.3 52 16 74 667 9.0
Travis Henry 24 14 358 1,546 4.3 70 7 31 195 6.3
LenDale White 29 16 364 1,354 3.7 28 7 34 174 5.1

In our last poll, as expected, you voted for Steve McNair to be the Titans’ all-time quarterback.

Yeah, this is only for players who played in Tennessee. If it was for the best players in franchise history, I agree Campbell would be the pick at RB. I’d also submit that Warren Moon was the best QB, not Steve McNair.
We’re planning on doing another series of polls later on for all the great Houston Oilers. Thanks to all of you for your comments and participation.

  2. Tom Gower Says:

Eddie’s the clear and easy pick here, frustrating though he may have been to watch at times in his later years. Football Outsiders, in one of the Pro Football Prospectuses, took a look at the claim that “running backs get stronger as they carry the ball more” and found it was generally hooey, except for Eddie.

  3. I.jason Says:

    As mentioned previously, George.

  4. RazorsEdge Says:

The Titans should not be separated from the Houston Oilers. The greatest RB in team history is Earl Campbell, no contest.

  5. jerry t Says:

I AGREE EARL CAMPBELL BY FAR………………
    E GEORGE WOULD BE NEXT.

  6. Dave Says:

I think they are basing this only on Titans players, not the Oilers. If they are going to include Oiler’s players, the whole landscape of this “contest” will be dramatically changed.

  7. Dave Says:

Oh yeah….is the Chris Brown vote a joke? If not, please explain this pick. The guy had one good season, but managed to become one of the most forgettable Titans EVER!!!

  8. Drexel Perry Says:

As the case with the rest of you, I gotta go with George in this one.
LOL@ the vote for Chris Brown.

  9. David H. Says:

I can sum this poll up with four words Im sure every Titans fan knows and has chanted…(especially at home games) EDDIE! EDDIE! EDDIE! EDDIE!

  10. jerry t Says:

oK EDDIE FOR RIGHT NOW I BELIEVE L WHITE
WILL SURPRISE EVERY BODY THIS YEAR AND THE FURTURE IS BRIGHT IF HE STAY’S HEALTHY.

  11. bobcomu Says:

I hope Lendale does end up ahead of Eddie and Earl on this list, that would be great for the Titans. But to even mention anyone else in the same breath as these two at this point is outragous. And Moon may be ahead of Mcnair on the list but he played in a much more wide open offense than Steve. I belive that if Steve would have been in a different type of system his passing numbers would be much more bloated, just look at what he did in the two years they actually let him throw the ball.

  12. Dave Says:

Moon, although I think/thought he was amazing, never took them to a superbowl…that alone gives Mcnair the nod!
