Titans take Rutgers CB Jason McCourty in 6th round

by

The Titans must have spent some time in New Jersey this offseason, as they selected their second player out of Rutgers.  Five rounds taking Kenny Britt, they addressed their need at cornerback in the 6th round by selecting Jason McCourty.

McCourty, who was a three year starter in Piscataway, has some nice size at 6′ and 193 pounds.  He also has some return experience, averaging nearly 26 yards a return on 17 career returns.  NFL Draft Countdown has him with a 4.30 40, and he “ran” a 4.32 at his 40 officially.  He’s probably not quite that fast, but he clearly has some serious wheels.

You’re generally not going to get a home run pick in the 6th round, but McCourty was also an Academic All-Big East guy and a team captain.  Combine those with some size and speed and a position of some but not immediate need, and you have a player who may be a contributor.

What do you think?  Like this pick?  Like the idea of taking two guys from the same school?
