Three reasons why the Titans won’t sign Michael Vick

by

First, I need to say it’s good to be back in Tennessee after a little time off.

Now that Michael Vick has been released from prison the inevitable questions will be asked, “Do you think the Titans will sign Vick?” and “Wouldn’t he be great running the Wildcat for the Titans?”

“No” is the answer to both questions and here are some reasons why.

1) Ever since the tenure of Adam Jones, the Titans have steered clear of any players who have the potential to bring more negative publicity to the team. Signing a convicted felon, one who will bring plenty of criticism from PETA, is not something the Titans are going to do.

2) Tennessee already has three quarterbacks on the roster, plus a fourth, Alex Mortensen, who is this year’s camp fodder QB. Why would the Titans sign another quarterback when they’ll only keep two or three? Kerry Collins and Vince Young will both be here. Patrick Ramsey would have a big head start on any new addition and he’s in football shape, not someone rusty.

3) Two months ago I wrote about the future of the single-wing offense in Tennessee.  Jeff Fisher won’t run the single-wing (a.k.a. the “Wildcat”) with the personnel he has now, let alone bring in an additional player for that purpose.

Signing Michael Vick makes no sense for the Titans. But if Roger Goodell reinstates him and if you’re a fan who thinks Vick has paid his debt to society and deserves another chance in the NFL, don’t worry. There are plenty of other teams who will take a chance on him.

I think that 31 teams will avoid this guy like he’s the epicenter of the swine-flu. Unfortunately, it only takes one team to sign this knuckle head. I really don’t care if this is how Vick was raised or not. To throw away your career to train, fight, gamble on, and kill dogs is just about the most asinine thing I have ever heard of. Everyone makes mistakes ( dui’s, a fight, domestic violence), but these individuals weren’t gambling on the outcome/s of there stupidity and/ or intentionally killing a living being. I really do believe most people deserve a second chance, but I have a hard time believing michael vick is one of those people.
Also, for the record, I think Leonard Little should have been kicked out of the league for his life taking dui after he already had a dui ( that’s called not learning from your mistakes and if that’s the case, no more chances!).

One phrase is enough to show the need for Vick: High risk, High reward.
I beleive that Michael truly regretts his run in with the law. However that does not by any means change his despicable actions. Michael cannot change what has already happened. What he can do is change his current attitude to avoid a similar occurence.
Michael has, to my knowledge, never had legal trouble prior to the dog fighting case. With that thought in mine I am confident he can keep his nose clean from any future legal trouble.
Now that we have established Vick’s current situation lets look at how the Titans could use him.
Tennessee has an exempelary defense. However their offens is average at best. THE ONLY REASON TENNESSEE DID NOT GO TO THE AFC CHAMPIONSHIP IS BECAUSE THE OFFENSE WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO SCORE ON THE RAVENS. All it takes is one weapon on the offenseive side of the ball for this team to win a championship.
Secondly, we must recognise that Kerry Collins is an aging asset. He will only be able to serve this team with profiency for 2-3 more years. Kerry was never an explosive QB last year like Peyton or Tom. He completed short neccesary passes over 60% of the time.
Proposal: Wait until Vick is released, sign him and trade Vince Young to a team in need of a QB (i.e. Jets, Lions, Texans, Vikings), revert kerry to his backup role or trade him as well( pull a matt cassel)

AGREED… I WAS NOT A MICHAEL VICK FAN BEFORE THE DOGS, BUT TENNESSEE NEEDS A OFFENSIVE WEAPON BAD! VICK WOULD BE PERFECT, COLLIN’S BLEW IT LATE IN THE YEAR LIKE I KNEW HE WOULD, VINCE YOUNG IS A FLAKE… TENNESSEE (MY TEAM) COULD REALLY USE VICK IF THEY CAN GET HIM BCAK IN SHAPE AND HIS CONFIDENCE RE-ESTABLISHED.

I agree with the titans fans out there (myself included) that we do need an offensive weapon, I’m tired of our great defense and mediocre offense. Collins has had his days and vince young is a crybaby. The only good thing the titans have done is to pick up chris johnson, I’m a fan of kenny britt as well, but without a dynamic qb everyone knows were just gonna run the ball and none of our receivers will ever be decent until we get a qb that can throw the ball with experience. I mean they have already made stupid decisions this offseason by picking up Nate Washington when two amazing receivers like anquan boldin and brandon Marshall were begging a team to pick them up in a trade. Don’t pass up another opportunity like this, bc I would really like to see us in the superbowl before another 11 years pass us by!
