Titans-Seahawks inactives, gameday thread

January 3, 2010

The following Titans are inactive for today’s game:

DT Tony Brown,  WR Dominique Edison, DE Jevon Kearse, T/G Troy Kropog, CB Jamar Love, CB Ryan Mouton, RB Javon Ringer, G Fernando Velasco

Rod Hood probably gets the start for Nick Harper in his return to the lineup, while Sen’Derrick Marks is listed as starting at DT for Tony Brown in a mild surprise over Jovan Haye.

For the Seahawks, the inactives are:

DT Red Bryant, WR Nate Burleson, G Trevor Canfield, LB Aaron Curry, TE CAmeron Morrah, QB Mike Teel (#3 QB), CB Josh Wilson, G Mansfield Wrotto

Please post your comments here during today’s game as we follow CJ’s quest for 2K.

A final pregame look at Chris Johnson vs the Seahawks

I thought I’d take a final look at the Seahawks defense before today’s Tennessee Titans – Seattle Seahawks game and in particular, compare some of their stats with Chris Johnson’s.

First, the Seahawks have, by most measurements, an average, or slightly above average rushing defense. Seattle is 14th against the run in yards per game and in a tie for 15th in yards per carry.

Also, as Vince Verhei noted in this week’s question and answer session with Drexel, Seattle is 13th in run defense DVOA, slightly above average.

The Seahawks didn’t fare too well last week in Green Bay. The Packers rushed 32 times for 153 yards (4.8 avg) and 5 TDs. It should be noted Green Bay has a good run team, rushing for 4.4 ypc, which is in a tie for eighth in the league. (more…)

Titans/Seahawks Q&A with Vince Verhei

January 2, 2010

In preparation for tomorrow’s season-ender between the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks, I exchanged emails with Seahawks aficionado Vince Verhei.

In addition to his Seattle allegiance, Vince authored the Seahawks’ team chapter in Football Outsiders Almanac 2009 while also contributing a weekly column to ESPN Insider regarding each week’s biggest upset.

Our questions and answers…after the jump. (more…)

Tennessee Titans at Seattle Seahawks preview

December 30, 2009

The Seattle Seahawks, who will host the Tennessee Titans this week, are not a good team. They’re now a team with a 5-10 record on a three-game losing streak.

If not for a very weak schedule, the Seahawks could easily be 2-13 right now. Two of their wins came against the cellar dwellers in their division, the St. Louis Rams. Titans fans saw how bad the Lambs were in Week Fourteen, in a 47-7 mismatch.

Another Seahawk win was against the 2-13 Detroit Lions. Hey, somebody had to win that game and fortune smiled on the home team that day. Fortune did not smile on the homestanding Seahawks two weeks ago, as they were upset by the then 1-12 Bucs. (more…)

Titans/Seahawks Q&A exchange

December 28, 2009

Next weekend, the Tennessee Titans (7-8) will conclude their topsy-turvy 2009 campaign with a visit to the Emerald City to face the Seattle Seahawks (5-10).

As usual, we’ll be conducting a question/answer exchange with a blogger/writer who muses about the Titans’ upcoming opponent.

Have any questions you’d like to ask? Feel free to post them in the comments section below.

Titans-Chargers inactives, gameday thread

December 25, 2009

The list of inactives is out and includes the following Titans:

LB Keith Bulluck, WR Dominique Edison, CB Rod Hood, DE Jevon Kearse, T/G Troy Kropog, RB Alvin Pearman, RB Javon Ringer, TE Craig Stevens

My condolences to anybody hoping to see Hood rather than the questionable, yet active Nick Harper.  No starting lineup changes are listed, nor did they put Bulluck on IR and add somebody as they did with Jamie Winborn in David Thornton’s roster spot.  Eric Bakhtiari is in the lineup, as I believe the Titans dress 9 DL for the first time this season.

For the Chargers, the inactives are:

RB Michael Bennett, LB Kevin Burnett, DE Jacques Cesaire, WR Buster Davis, C Eric Ghiaciuc, CB Dante Hughes, CB C.J. Spillman, QB Charlie Whitehurst (3rd QB)

Nick Hardwick returns to the starting lineup as center, while Eric Ghiaciuc was added for G/C Scott Mruczkowski.

Feel free to leave your comments here during today’s game.

Justice Is Coming answers Total Titans’ questions about the Chargers

December 24, 2009

Thanks to Ross Warner of the Chargers site Justice Is Coming for participating in this week’s Q&A session.  Thanks to Scott and Andrew for suggesting questions (sorry, Scott, I didn’t get your until after I’d sent the email to Ross).

Questions and answers follow beyond the jump.

Tennessee Titans vs. San Diego Chargers preview

December 24, 2009

Tomorrow, the Tennessee Titans (7-7) and the San Diego Chargers (11-3) will square off in a Christmas Day battle at LP Field.

There’s no love lost between these two foes, who competed against one another in two late-season matches in 2007.

The Chargers greatly endangered the Titans’ playoff hopes that year with their 23-17 OT victory. A few weeks later, San Diego officially ended Tennessee’s season with a 17-6 playoff win.

Will the Titans avenge those scathing defeats with a win over a hot Charger team on Friday? My take on this week’s Titans/Chargers battle…after the jump. (more…)

Ask a Chargers blogger

December 22, 2009

As we normally do, we’ll be doing a Q&A with a Chargers blogger before this Friday’s Christmas night game.  If there are any questions you’d like to me ask, please post them below and I will ask them.

Titans vs. Dolphins preview

December 19, 2009

Tomorrow at LP Field, the Tennessee Titans (6-7) play host to the Miami Dolphins (7-6) in an AFC wildcard race survival matchup.

In addition to outside assistance, the Titans must win their last three games of the season if they are to have any chance of making an improbable trip to the postseason. As for the 7-6 Fins, they are in the hunt for a wildcard spot as well as only being a game behind New England for AFC East supremacy.

A preview of this week’s crucial Titans/Dolphins battle…up next. (more…)
