Now that the season is over, it’s time to review the players’ performance over the last three months. We’ve been doing that, of course, on an ongoing basis but not yet for the entire season.
 
These grades are only for offensive plays and do not include players’ performance on special teams, which will be in a separate article. The grades are followed by comments based upon my observations over the course of the season.
 
It all starts with the guys up front, so we’ll start there.
 
Offensive line: They paved the way for Chris Johnson’s record setting season and allowed only 15 sacks. That doesn’t mean they were all great. (more…)

Mistake-prone Titans fall hard to Chargers 42-17

For all intents and purposes, the 2009 NFL season is over for the Tennessee Titans.

Marred by self-inflicted wounds in the form of back-breaking penalties and three costly turnovers, the Titans were defeated handily by the surging San Diego Chargers 42-17.

Vince Young had his worst game since being re-inserted as the team’s starting QB, completing only 8 of his 21 throws for an abysmal 89 yards, while also tossing two interceptions and fumbling once.

Titans who may not be back in 2010

There should be a poll up about the decision today naming VY as the starter. This post would’ve been written earlier but for technical difficulties-I’m not trying to ignore the latest news.

Two months ago, looking ahead, the question that would have seemed to be facing the Titans in the 2010 offseason would be whether or not the Titans would have a realistic shot at seriously competing for a Super Bowl berth in 2010 and which veterans should be retained for another year. As we look toward Week 8 of the 2009 season, though, it’s depressingly apparent that that open window mostly closed in the recent offseason.

With the window mostly shut, the decision as to which players might be retained changed a little. So, which Titans could be looking at playing elsewhere in 2010?
