2010 Senior Bowl: Possible Tennessee Titan draft options

January 29, 2010

Tomorrow, Mobile, Alabama will play host to its annual all-star game that showcases the talents of college football’s best and brightest senior NFL draft prospects.

The Senior Bowl is an excellent opportunity for NFL teams to get a head-start in the lengthy evaluation process that culminates with April’s NFL Draft.

Let’s take a look at a few Senior Bowl participants who could emerge as potential draft targets for the Tennessee Titans. (more…)

The Tennessee Titans’ 2009 report card: Special teams

January 17, 2010

I’ve never seen such a mess as the Titans’ special teams were in 2009. Ten different Titans returned kicks, five players returned punts and four men punted. Many of their efforts had less than desirable outcomes.

Amid all of these helter-skelter inconsistencies and personnel changes, there were several bright spots.

As I did in the report cards for the offense and defense, I’ll have a few comments along with the grades. This time, grades are given only for special teams play and do not include or reflect upon a player’s contributions on offense or defense. (more…)

The Tennessee Titans miss Chris Carr

January 16, 2010

Later today, former Titan/current Baltimore Raven Chris Carr will serve as his new team’s returner and starting cornerback as they face off against Peyton Manning and the Colts.

Meanwhile, back in Nashville, the hurt that stems from the offseason loss of “Mr. Indispensable” still lingers.

As we’ve said on several occasions on Total Titans since Carr’s departure last March, losing the valuable returner/fill-in CB was undoubtedly one of the Titans’ worst offseason decisions in 2009. (more…)

The Tennessee Titans’ 2009 report card: Defense

It’s good to see many of you have followed us here on our new temporary home. Thanks for being with us.

We looked at the report card for the offense the other day and will now turn to the defense.

As before, I’ve arranged the grades by position group, with a sentence or two about each player after their grades. Only the players who had significant playing time are graded here. Also, please note that these grades reflect only their performance on defense; any special teams play is not considered here.

As you might expect from a defense which had a poor year, many of their grades are not pretty. (more…)

2009 Tennessee Titans rookie report cards

January 5, 2010

Yesterday, Andrew got the offseason ball rolling by penning a review of the rollercoaster ride also known as the 2009 Tennessee Titans’ 8-8 season.

Continuing down the seemingly endless path of the offseason, today I’ll take a look at the performances of the Titans’ most recent draftees during their rookie years.

A first-year review of the ’09 Titan draft class…after the jump. (more…)

Mistake-prone Titans fall hard to Chargers 42-17

December 26, 2009

For all intents and purposes, the 2009 NFL season is over for the Tennessee Titans.

Marred by self-inflicted wounds in the form of back-breaking penalties and three costly turnovers, the Titans were defeated handily by the surging San Diego Chargers 42-17.

Vince Young had his worst game since being re-inserted as the team’s starting QB, completing only 8 of his 21 throws for an abysmal 89 yards, while also tossing two interceptions and fumbling once.

Up next…some additional thoughts on tonight’s disappointing Titan defeat.

Rod Hood to the rescue? Titans sign veteran CB

October 15, 2009

In desperate need of depth in a porous secondary that’s already facing life without Nick Harper, Vincent Fuller and possibly (once again) Cortland Finnegan, the Tennessee Titans signed veteran CB Roderick Hood earlier today.

Hood is a seven-year vet who once snagged an impressive 5 interceptions for 196 yards and 2 scores during the 2007 season.
