The Tennessee Titans select RB Javon Ringer in 5th round

by

Memo to Chris Henry: your spot on the roster is anything but secure.

With their second of four compensatory picks, the Tennessee Titans addressed the running back position with their selection of Michigan State’s Javon Ringer in the 5th round.

By drafting Ringer, the Titans have added depth to their stable of backs, which could eventually equate to trouble for the much-maligned Henry.

Like several of the other players selected by the Titans this weekend, Ringer also met with the Tennessee brass at Baptist Sports Park during a pre-draft visit.

Despite his lack of size, Ringer isn’t afraid to mix it up with the big uglies on opposing defenses. His combination of patience and toughness makes him a guy with the potential to become a factor somewhere down the road in the Titans’ smashmouth running attack, which could mean trouble for the future Titan prospects of “Mr. Invisible” a.k.a. Chris Henry.

What do you think Titan fans? How do you feel about the team spending a draft choice on Ringer?

Henry is definitely gone, Rafael Little’s roster spot is in question, and this lends to speculation that this is LenDale White’s last season as a Titan.

like the pick, CH is gone, and little will robably stay on the practice squad, if he can be good for 5-10 carries a game, this gives us a new york giants esque stable of backs, I kind of like this pick.

    Great pick…
Henry is gone. Little gets a chance to prove he is worth keeping. Ringer could replace Lendale, if he aint here next year. Still think that White will be a major factor again this year. He is a great goalline back and hopefully a little more this year.

Henry’s gone and it’s Ganther v Little for the 4th spot + special teams.

Henry was already gone before this draft even started. The only question now is how long will White last? Will he make it through training camp and be cut before the season starts? Will the Titans trade him before the start of the season when one of the others teams experience injuries at the RB position? Or will the Titans use in him in short yardage downs and then let him go to free agency after next season in hopes of getting a compensatory pick in 2011?
I think the second scenario, where he is dealt some time during training camp for a 2010 pick, is a strong possibility, if Ringer can show that he is a short yardage back.

Of Lendale’s 15 touchdowns, I think he really only “earned” one ( the 80 yarder at KC). Does anyone here really think CJ (or Ganther or Hall) couldn’t have scored the other 14? I’m all for splitting up the work load to keep guys fresh, but I have never been impressed by Lendale ( aside from that 80 yarder). For the most part, I felt like CJ got us all the way down field and I felt like he was being “robbed” of his chance to score by #25. I don’t know what his cap number is or if trading him is a possibilty, but if it is I’d like to bid him farewell.
